I'm Emotional.
So last night, I got really emotional. However, that is to be expected of me because I'm a girl. Well, there's that and the fact that I got a chance to take in one of the best plays I have seen in a long time.I was invited to a performance of Eve Ensler’s (The Vagina Monologues) new play, Emotional Creature, courtesy of a friend at the UN Foundation. The play highlights what it is like to be a girl of the world through monologues and is directed by Jo Bonney. I was also delighted to discover that my former hip-hop dance instructor, Luam, choreographed the play. Um, that's all I will say about my past hip-hop dance life. The show took me on a roller-coster of emotions exploring issues such as insecurity, sexuality, prostitution, body image, bullying, child labor and more with laughs and song and dance in-between. The cast is masterfully played by Joaquina Kalukango, along with Ashley Bryant, Molly Carden, Emily S. Grosland, Sade Namei, and Olivia Oguma. I swear, I couldn't peel my eyes away from the stage.More than anything else, Emotional Creature expresses a movement in which Ensler reveals the astonishing strength of being a girl. Now if that isn't worth getting emotional about, I am not sure what is.[youtube=http://youtu.be/qBBRUZoHj1M]
