(My) Journey for Change

Okay, so this is my first ever blog post and it couldn't have come at a better time. I'm at a pivotal point in my life - on the cusp of something phenomenal - and I figured now is a great time for me to get my thoughts down. It was a challenge at first, I won't lie. I had a hard time figuring out what to write about. My life is always chock-full of interesting happenings, so content wasn't an issue. It was 'what' to post.Hmmm..perhaps I could talk about the antics which have occurred over the past few months of my job search? Maybe I could talk about getting a crash course (and mastering, thank you very much) social media in a matter of three weeks? Or maybe I could discuss the elation that I felt when I discovered the perfect shade of red lipstick?I wasn't sure as I sat down and created this blog destination while CNN's, Black In America 2 played in the background. And then I looked up and was inspired.Featured was Malaak Compton-Rock who spearheads the mission to empower "at-risk" youth via her cause 'Journey for Change'.  The program takes a group of at-risk youth from Bushwick, Brooklyn to Johannesburg, South Africa. The goal is to empower them through service. As I watched the kids, who are ages 12 - 15 and facing individual challenges, find compassion to share with other young people who are a world away, it reminded me of why I strive to do what I do and why I won't stop until I get there. What's more is that they are required to sign one-year contracts to become "global ambassadors." It was more than inspiring.Plus, Malaak Compton-Rock was wearing the same tweed jacket that I own from Anthropologie...
